This season the Fantasy Doctor will answer a few of our readers' fantasy questions on an almost daily basis, Monday through Friday. Send your questions to the Doc at the address above.
Doc, any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm in a standard scoring, 12-team keeper league. I can keep up to 3. Who would you keep: Derek Anderson, Brian Westbrook, Ryan Grant, Jamal Lewis, Reggie Wayne, or Michael Turner? Thanks!
— Rick Redding, Reno, Nev.
Thanks for the question, Rick. I'd start off by immediately telling you to keep Westbrook and Wayne. Both of those guys are top-five players at their respective positions and should be in line for great campaigns in '08. Now comes the hard part — deciding who your third keeper should be. It's close, but I'd say to hold on to Grant. It seems like Ryan Grant's name has come up in more Fantasy Doctor questions this year than any other player, probably because the sample size for his success is so small. I believe he's the real deal, though, and I always go back to this stat: He rushed for 929 yards and eight TDs in the final 10 games of 2007. Those are spectacular numbers, and even if he regresses a bit this season, he still could have a huge year.
Dear Doctor,
Are the Saints sticking with Deuce McAllister or is it time for a flier on Pierre Thomas? Thanks.
— Stuart Grant, Ottawa, Ontario
Always good to get e-mail from our Canadian fans, Stuart. For now, the Saints appear to be sticking with Deuce, but that doesn't mean you should target him in fantasy leagues. He has a history of injuries and is coming off a torn ACL that kept him out of the final 13 games last season. Also, he at best will be splitting time with Reggie Bush, giving the veteran limited upside. McAllister might be worth snagging if he plummets in your draft, but I wouldn't touch him otherwise. As for Thomas, he's technically fourth on the Saints' depth chart behind Aaron Stecker, so the chances of him making a fantasy impact this season are slim. I can see why he might interest owners after what he did in Week 17 last year — 105 yards rushing, 121 receiving and a TD — but he'll need a slew of injuries in order to get significant playing time in '08.
