This season the Fantasy Doctor will answer a few of our readers' fantasy questions on an almost daily basis, Monday through Friday. Send your questions to the Doc at the address above.
It is getting close to draft day and I still need to pick the one player that I'm keeping for next season. The WRs are OK and at the QB position I have some good players. However, it is one of the backs that I plan to keep. I have Steven Jackson and Larry Johnson on the roster. Who is the keeper for next season?

Ah, deciding between the two great running backs in Missouri. To me this choice isn't all that close — you have to go with Jackson as your keeper. In my opinion, both S-Jax and L.J. are the best offensive weapons on their respective teams, but the biggest difference between the two are their supporting casts. Johnson plays on a unit with a poor O-line, an unproven QB and a mostly lousy cast of receivers. This allows opposing defenses to load up the box and stuff Johnson at the line. Jackson, meanwhile, is part of a very good offense that can move the ball effectively. He has a competent QB, a decent O-line and one of the game's top wideouts, so defenses are forced to respect the pass. Now healthy, Jackson is primed to have a monster year. L.J. could too, but it would take a Herculean effort given his numerous obstacles.
Hey Doc,
I am in a keeper league, so that sets the table for the following question(s) to you. I have Sammy Morris from last year. He performed admirably until he got hurt. That said, I was planning on keeping him, since from what I read, he figures in the RB mix with the Pats. However, with the Pats scooping up LaMont Jordan, who incidentally I also have as a keeper, the overall two-part question is which one has the higher value & will the Pats keep both to diminish the value of Laurence Maroney even further? Thanks.
— Hoz
Well, Hoz, I'm not sure who else you have that you could consider keeping, but I'd strongly recommend not holding on to either one of the two guys you mentioned. Sure, Morris did play well when called upon last season, but he won't see enough playing time to be much of a fantasy factor. Jordan is a bit more intriguing, since he's only a few years removed from a big season in Oakland, but even he is a long shot to have much fantasy value. He'll probably slide in as the Pats' No. 2 RB, but Maroney is still easily their top guy. I think Maroney is poised for a rebound year, and even if he goes down, Jordan, Morris and Kevin Faulk will divvy up the carries, cutting into each other's production. Hopefully you have other options on your roster worth retaining over a couple of so-so backups.
