Hey there, Doc. I have a keeper question. I was lucky enough to end last season with Peyton Manning, Randy Moss, Marshawn Lynch, Marion Barber III and Clinton Portis (though I still came in third). The league starts 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB/WR, and we can keep two but may pick from the wire. QBs get 6 points for pass TDs (equal to rushing and receiving TDs) and RBs will most likely go fast. I was leaning towards keeping Manning and Moss and rummaging for RBs. Any suggestions?
— Dante
Hard to believe you came in third with that roster, Dante, but we all know that anything can happen in fantasy football. As for your keepers, I'd agree with your suggestion of retaining Manning, as QBs have lots of value in your league if they get six points for TD passes. I'm not convinced that Moss should be your other guy, though. If RBs are going to fly off the board, why not keep one of your three good options? Since youth is always a key in determining keepers, I'd probably say that Lynch is your best bet. I like all three of your backs, but Lynch is the best combo of youth and talent. He's going to be a top-10 RB for many years to come, so it's wise not to let him go.
I am in a keeper league and have the first pick this year. Should I pick up Tom Brady or Joseph Addai? I do have RB Frank Gore already, that was my keeper player.
— Aaron
Well, Aaron, Brady and Addai are basically even in our overall rankings, so it's extremely close between these guys. Since you already have a legit No. 1 RB in Gore, I'd say to give your team some balance by keeping Brady. All the guy did was throw for 4,800 yards and 50 TDs last season, and even if he can't match those stats in '08, he's still very likely to finish as the highest-scoring QB. There are very few leagues in which Brady shouldn't be kept, and I don't think yours is one of them. Hold on to last year's MVP and you won't be disappointed.
