This season the Fantasy Doctor will answer a few of our readers' fantasy questions on an almost daily basis, Monday through Friday. Send your questions to the Doc at the address above.
I am in a keeper league and have the second pick in the draft. My only running back on my team is Edgerrin James, so I need to address that area. The only running backs available at that pick would be Jonathan Stewart or Michael Turner. Which would you choose and why? Thanks for the help.
— In Need of RB Transfusion
You're right, if you're in a keeper league and James is the only back on your roster, you are in need of a RB transfusion. At least you'll be able to get a decent one with your first pick. We have Stewart and Turner pretty close in our rankings, but if you need a reliable guy that you can start every week, I'd go with Turner. While I like Stewart, especially for the future, he's been very limited in the preseason because of his toe injury. It usually takes rookies some time to adjust to the NFL, and Stewart is behind the eight ball after missing quite a bit of work. It looks like he'll at best be splitting carries with DeAngelo Williams this season. Turner, however, has looked great in the preseason and should see a ton of action as Atlanta's No. 1 RB. I like his game-breaking ability and the fact that the Falcons will be running a lot this year. All told, go with The Burner.
Hey doc! I'm in a 3-keeper league in which we lose the rounds that we keep players from, and I'm having a hard time with this decision. I've got Tom Brady in the 5th round, Jason Witten in the 11th, Thomas Jones in the 13th, Dallas Clark in the 14th, and Brandon Marshall in the 18th. I've pretty much decided on Brady and Jones, but which guys would you keep (especially out of the other three)?
— David
Tough choice here, David. I agree with you on Brady and Jones. Brady is a no-brainer in the fifth round, and since you'll want to keep at least one RB, Jones represents nice value as a 13th-rounder. It's not as easy picking one of the other three, but I think Witten is the guy I'd go with. He and Tony Romo have an incredible rapport, and as long as Romo is at QB, Witten's going to put up big stats. He's the top-ranked TE on our board, and he's going to go in about the fourth round of most drafts. He's a very safe keeper as an 11th-round pick. I almost went with Marshall and his ridiculously good value, but character issues and the suspension were enough to scare me away.
