Well, off to a great start this year. Tom Brady is out for the season. Bad for pro football, bad for my fantasy team. I have David Garrard as my other QB. Free-agent QBs available: Chad Pennington, Trent Edwards, Jon Kitna, Matt Ryan and, of course, Matt Cassel. Or should I just use Garrard for now and pick up a non-QB free agent like Devery Henderson, Sammy Morris, Hank Baskett or Michael Jenkins? Thank you, doctor.

— John

You're definitely right, John, Brady's loss is bad for all of the NFL and for many fantasy teams, as well. I'm guessing that a lot of owners are in the same predicament as you this week. Losing your first pick is never an easy thing to overcome, but at least you have plenty of time to work on improving your roster. With Garrard as your only other QB, I think you absolutely have to pick up some QB insurance. Of the guys you mentioned, I like Kitna the most, since he should produce consistent fantasy points for the foreseeable future. Ryan and Cassel are both intriguing options, as well, but I'm guessing they're going to have their ups and downs this season. But if you can grab one of them in addition to Kitna, it might not be a bad idea. Good luck.

Fantasy Doctor,
I can only start 3 RBs, so I am going to trade one of my four for a stud WR. Who would you get rid of out of Clinton Portis, Brian Westbrook, Marshawn Lynch and Jamal Lewis? Thanks.

— SACDaddy

Well, if you're just looking for the one I'd most want to trade away, it'd definitely be Lewis. I think his '07 resurgence was somewhat of a fluke, and his upside isn't anywhere near as high as that of any of the other three. However, I don't know if he is going to net you a stud WR in a trade. If you can get a solid wideout in exchange for Lewis, then by all means pull the trigger, but I don't think his value is quite high enough. If you can't get the caliber of receiver you want for him, maybe try swinging a deal with Portis as trade bait. I think his value is much higher in the fantasy community, and I know someone will trade you a top WR for him.
