The table at the left measures the average number of pass attempts a quarterback had in games he started over the past three seasons. The reason we used games started and not games played is because a few signalcallers — such as Tony Romo — often saw action only as a holder prior to taking over as Dallas’ full-time QB midway through 2006. A minimum of eight games started was required to qualify for this list.

Obviously, the more passes a QB throws, the more chances he has to produce, so this stat is a good measuring stick for which QBs have been in the best position to succeed from a fantasy standpoint. After examining this list, we've formed opinions as to who will stay at the top, who definitely will rise or fall and whose pass totals may surprise or disappoint you in 2008, as categorized below.

Note: All quarterbacks who have started 16 or fewer games since 2005 are marked with an asterisk. Rookies are not included in this list.

FIRMLY ENTRENCHED IN THE TOP 10: Derek Anderson, Drew Brees, Marc Bulger, Tom Brady, Carson Palmer

DEFINITE CLIMBERS: Matt Schaub, Jay Cutler, Alex Smith, Kyle Orton

POTENTIAL RISERS: Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Rex Grossman, Matt Leinart, Jake Delhomme, Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger

CERTAIN TUMBLERS: Jon Kitna, Kyle Boller

POSSIBLE STUMBLERS: Kurt Warner, Donovan McNabb, Eli Manning, Kellen Clemens, Josh McCown
