Although troubled with the holdout of OLT Jason Peters, the Bills are able to breathe a little easier after coming to terms with second-round WR James Hardy Thursday. The 6-5 Hardy is expected to quickly step into a starting role on a young offense, and provide emerging QB Trent Edwards with an inviting target in the red zone. In three years of college ball at Indiana, Hardy amassed a school-record 36 touchdown receptions.
With Hardy squared away, first-round CB Leodis McKelvin remains the team’s lone draftee yet to sign a deal.
In PFW’s 2008 Draft Preview book, PFW draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki writes that Hardy, who has had multiple brushes with the law, “has shown signs of maturity but still has a long way to go before he grows up and learns to be a pro. Rare size could create matchup problems, but he has shown he can be slowed against physical press coverage and needs to become a more crafty route runner.”
