According to a report in the Miami Herald, the Dolphins informed PK Jay Feely on Tuesday morning that they were letting him go in favor of undrafted free-agent rookie Dan Carpenter.
Feely, 32, played one season in Miami after signing with the team as a free agent in the spring of 2007. He had a standout season, drilling 21-of-23 FG attempts for a team record 91.3 percent efficiency.
It's not expected that Feely will be out of work for long, especially with some unsettled kicking situations across the league.
Carpenter, a 6-2, 216-pounder from Montana, has impressed in training camp and nailed both of his FG attempts in the Dolphins' first preseason game against the Buccaneers on Aug. 9, connecting from 41 and 49 yards out.
