Dolphins' McCown suffers freak finger injury; status uncertain
By PFW staff
July 16, 2008
Dolphins QB Josh McCown, expected to compete for the starting job in training camp, has been axed. Literally. According to reports out of Texas, McCown suffered a laceration on the index finger of his throwing hand two weeks ago when his brother, fellow NFL quarterback Luke McCown, inadvertently cut Josh's finger when the two were chopping firewood.
McCown was signed this offseason to a two-year, $6.25 million deal to compete with John Beck and rookie Chad Henne for the starting job. A veteran of six seasons, McCown has previously played for the Cardinals, Raiders and Lions, making 31 starts. It's unclear at this point as to how the injury will affect his performance at camp, which opens in 10 days.
