The Jets are hoping Batman makes just as big a splash in New York as his namesake is doing in the box office. On Tuesday, the Jets agreed to a deal with CB Ahmad “Batman” Carroll, just one day before veterans were due to report to Hofstra University for training camp.
An athletic gem whose blistering speed made him the Packers’ first-round draft pick in 2004, the Arkansas product has been unable to translate his physical gifts to the gridiron. He was waived by the club in 2006, and played in just one game in ’06 after the Jaguars picked him up following his Green Bay release. He was out of football in 2007, and last played for the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League in 2008.
Carroll is expected to compete for a roster spot at a position where the Jets have one star — Darrelle Revis — and a host of question marks. Justin Miller is penciled in as the starting corner opposite Revis, but he has to prove he’s ready for the NFL rigors after spending 2007 on injured reserve.
