Lynch, Jackson are two more surprising cuts by Patriots

A day after surprisingly cutting veteran CB Fernando Bryant, a free-agent signee this past offseason who was expected to contend for a starting job, the Patriots announced two more surprise cuts - veteran S John Lynch and WR Chad Jackson.
Lynch, 36, had signed with the team earlier in the preseason after getting released by the Broncos. He might be looking at the end of his playing career, although he said he would keep his options open before making a decision.
Jackson, 23, the Patriots' second-round draft pick in 2006 (36th overall), has been a huge disappointment. Expectations were that he would be a big, fast wideout who would give the team the vertical threat it had lacked prior to his arrival. However, he was injured for much of his first training camp and part of the season, playing in 12 games and recording 13 catches for 152 yards and three TDs. He suffered a knee injury in the AFC championship-game loss to the Colts and was placed on the physically unable to perform list by the team for most of the '07 season.
He was activated on Nov. 7, 2007 and played in two games for the Pats. He started one game in his two seasons in New England.
