The Ravens signed third-round draft pick Oniel Cousins, Scout.com reported Friday morning. Cousins, the No. 99 overall pick and the third of three selections Baltimore made in Round Three, will provide depth at offensive tackle. He also could see some time at guard.
The 6-4, 310-pound Cousins played left and right tackle at UTEP, and scouts came away impressed with his athleticism and potential. He began his collegiate career at defensive tackle and only took up the game of football in his sophomore year of high school.
Cousins has already made an impression on the Ravens with his feistiness. He was involved in a pair of fights in the team's offseason practices.
In Pro Football Weekly's 2008 Draft Preview book, PFW draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki summed up Cousins this way: "Raw, athletic, long-armed prospect who has the upside to develop but has yet to show the overall consistency desired and was benched for not being able to handle six protections as a junior. Has the physical tools to play on either side, but still could use another year of grooming before he is ready."
