QB Joe Flacco agreed to a five-year contract with the Ravens Wednesday night, The Baltimore Sun reported.
Flacco, the club's first-round pick, could receive up to $30 million during the life of the contract, the paper reported. He received $8.75 million in guarantees, according to the paper.
Flacco, Troy Smith and Kyle Boller will compete for the starting QB job. Flacco earned praise for his progress in offseason workouts and proved he moved relatively well for a dropback quarterback.
The 6-6, 235-pound Flacco began his collegiate career at Pittsburgh but transferred to Delaware after only one season. In Pro Football Weekly's 2008 Draft Preview, draft expert Nolan Nawrocki called Flacco a "big, traditional, rifle-armed pocket passer who could take some time to adapt to an NFL-style offense where he has to look off receivers and fit the ball into tight windows."
