July 7, 2008
The Steelers signed OT Tony Hills, their fourth-round pick, to a three-year contract on Monday. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The 6-6, 305-pound Hills is expected to compete for a reserve role in his first NFL season. Hills started 24 games at left tackle at the University of Texas and earned All-America honors from the Walter Camp foundation as a senior.
Hills' athleticism is regarded as his greatest strength. However, he has a history of injuries. He suffered a serious left knee injury as a high school senior in 2002 that caused nerve damage in his left foot, and he still plays with the condition today. Also, he broke his left fibula in his senior season at Texas.
