Texans WR Harry Williams is unlikely to play football again after undergoing surgery Sunday to fuse together his cervical spine, according to doctors.
Williams injured his neck in Friday's preseason game at Dallas when colliding with teammate Nick Ferguson while covering a kickoff return. Williams suffered temporary paralysis and did not regain movement until he was in an ambulance on its way to a Dallas hospital.
Doctors believe that Williams will be able to walk again following the lengthy but successful operation. However, the severity of the damage to his neck and spine makes a return to football highly unlikely.
Williams was a seventh-round pick of the New York Jets in 2005. After spending most of 2007 on the Texans' practice squad, he had been competing for a roster spot this preseason as a special-teams contributor.
