The Texans would consider playing their games at Rice Stadium in Houston if repairs to hurricane-damaged Reliant Stadium are not completed in time for the Texans' next home game on Oct. 5, Texans owner Bob McNair said Tuesday.
“We’ve discussed that as a possibility if we could not play here," McNair said. We would have to talk to them at Rice. But certainly that’s a large enough stadium that that is a possibility."
Reliant Stadium's roof was damaged as Hurricane Ike hit Houston over the weekend, but McNair is hopeful that there is no structural damage to the stadium itself beyond panels of the roof. McNair said engineers are looking for such damage, and he did not indicate whether the stadium would be ready for the Oct. 5 game vs. Indianapolis.
Rice Stadium can seat up to 70,000 people depending on the configuration of its seating. It opened in 1950.
