Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards announced Wednesday that QB Tyler Thigpen will start Sunday's game at Atlanta. It will be his first NFL start.
Thigpen took over for an injured Damon Huard early in last week's game against the Raiders. He completed 14-of-33 passes for 151 yards with one TD and one interception. The Chiefs lost the contest, 23-8.
Thigpen will be the third Kansas City QB to start in as many weeks. Brodie Croyle separated his shoulder in Week One and is expected to miss about two more weeks. Huard's status for Sunday is unknown after he suffered a neck injury against Oakland.
Thigpen, a seventh-round pick out of Coastal Carolina by the Vikings in 2007, likely will remain the starter until Croyle is healthy enough to return.
