Raiders owner Davis begins to correct mistakes with release of CB Hall

After a frustrating 2-6 start, including a shutout loss to the Falcons in Week Nine, Raiders owner Al Davis officially waived CB DeAngelo Hall on Wednesday and he is expected to release other several players, including WR Javon Walker in the near future, reports indicate. The roster overhaul could include as many as 12 players, according to reports. The Raiders, who traded a second-round pick for Hall just last winter, will have paid him $8 million ... More>

Raiders getting worse under Cable's guidance

So this is what having the league’s highest payroll can buy. In front of their home crowd, the Raiders put together a historically bad effort on Sunday, getting bludgeoned by the Falcons, 24-0. It was the club’s third home shutout in the past three years, after being shut out at home just once in its first 46 seasons. QB JaMarcus Russell continued to regress and the Raiders set franchise records for fewest offensive plays (34), ... More>

Raiders' defense shows spine foiling Favre's comeback attempt

This time, there was no collapse. The Raiders, who blew a fourth-quarter lead for the third time this season, didn’t completely unravel on Sunday when the Jets tied the game at 13 to send it into overtime. Oakland’s defense refused to let up on Brett Favre in the extra period, forcing the Jets to punt on all three of their drives in OT. The Raiders allowed just 45 yards in overtime before PK Sebastian Janikowski ... More>

Raiders need to re-think strategy with QB Russell

Lane Kiffin looks like he had it right. All we heard about since owner Al Davis unleashed venom on Kiffin and introduced interim head coach Tom Cable was that the Raiders were going to open up of the offense and let JaMarcus Russell air it out more. That’s exactly what we witnessed on Sunday in Oakland’s 34-3 loss to the Saints. It was an ugly sight. Russell, in his sixth career start, completed just 13-of-35 ... More>

Cable takes on punishing task of coaching Raiders

Tom Cable

 Tom Cable

Tom Cable sat next to Al Davis on Tuesday as he was introduced as the Raiders’ interim head coach, and he said a dream had just come true. Cable had been the team’s offensive line coach earlier in the day, but following the firing of Lane Kiffin, Davis selected him as the successor. Cable had achieved his goal of becoming an NFL head coach.

Cable has ... More>

Outspoken Sapp slides quietly into retirement after 13 seasons

For as loud and brash as Warren Sapp was at times during a standout 13-year career that included seven Pro Bowl selections, he stepped into retirement rather quietly late last week. Rumored to be contemplating retirement for several weeks, Sapp, 35, stepped away from the game by way of a phone call to Raiders owner Al Davis. He originally told Davis, head coach Lane Kiffin and teammates of his intentions after Oakland’s season finale, but Davis ... More>
