Fred Dean, a four-time Pro Bowler and member of the 2008 Pro Football Hall of Fame class, has been elected to the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame.
Dean, a defensive end, played in the NFL for 11 seasons, spending 1975-1981 with the Chargers. He was one of the most feared pass rushers of his time, using his speed off the line to bolt past offensive tackles and bring down the quarterback. Although sacks were not made an official stat until 1982, numbers kept by teams show that Dean recorded nearly 100 sacks in his career.
Dean will become the 34th entrant into the Chargers Hall of Fame. His induction will take place at halftime of San Diego’s game against the Patriots on October 12.
