The Chargers agreed to terms on a five-year contract with first-round pick CB Antoine Cason on Thursday night. The deal is reportedly worth slightly more than $12 million and includes a signing bonus of about $6 million.
Cason, the 27th overall selection in the 2008 draft, is expected to see playing time in a nickel back role during his rookie season. In his senior year at Arizona, Cason won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back and had five interceptions, returning two for touchdowns.
In PFW’s 2008 Draft Preview book, draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki calls Cason an "instinctive, press-zone boundary corner who lacks desirable long speed," adding that he "is quick, agile and instinctive."
Cason missed San Diego's three-day rookie camp this week while finalizing his contract, but he will be on the field Friday when the team begins training camp in earnest. The Chargers now have signed all five picks in their '08 draft class.
