Bolts put Gates, three others on PUP list

The Chargers placed four players on the active/physically-unable-to-perform list on Friday. They are TE Antonio Gates (toe), C Nick Hardwick (foot), FB Andrew Pinnock (knee) and LB Anthony Waters (knee).
All four of these players remain on San Diego's 80-man roster but cannot participate in practice until they pass a physical. They can be taken off the list any time before Aug. 30.
The injuries to Gates and Hardwick concern the team most. Gates is recovering from offseason toe surgery and is questionable for the season opener. Hardwick, meanwhile, had surgery done on his foot and could stay on the PUP list into the regular season, meaning he would be out for the first six games.
