Ex-Chargers LB Steve Foley, whose playing career was cut short two years ago when he was shot by an off-duty police officer, has settled his lawsuit against the cop and the city of Coronado, Calif.
Foley, 32, agreed to the deal last week, but the terms of the deal were not released until Monday, the day Foley was to appear in court for his civil trial. He is to receive $5.5 million from the upscale community on San Diego Bay.
Foley was shot in the hand, hip and leg in September 2006 after police officer Aaron Mansker followed his car home on suspicion that Foley was driving drunk. The two had a confrontation in Foley's cul-de-sac and Mansker testified at the trial that he shot Foley in self-defense when he saw Foley reach for his waistband, thinking the player had a gun.
The Chargers released Foley in March 2007, two years before his contract was due to expire. He currently lives in Houston.
