The Lions traded for CB Leigh Bodden this offseason as part of an overhaul of one of the league’s worst statistical secondaries. Now, they are rewarding their new cornerback with a big contract extension.
Bodden’s extension is for four additional years and $27 million, with club options going through the 2013 season. The deal gives him a signing bonus of $2 million and a weighty $8.6 million roster bonus if he’s still on the team next March.
Bodden was part of the Shaun Rogers trade to Cleveland, which also netted the Lions a third-round pick, which they used to select DT Andre Fluellen.
Last season with the Browns, his first as a full-time starter, Bodden had a career-high six interceptions, plus 76 tackles.
