A report in the Detroit Free Press said that the Lions, in their never-ending quest to bolster their running game, brought in three veteran running backs Tuesday for a workout — ex-Seahawk Shaun Alexander, ex-Bear Cedric Benson and ex-Packer Vernand Morency.
A report by News 8 Austin (Texas) said that Benson was going to miss an event in Austin on Wednesday because he was in Detroit to sign a contract with the Lions.
Benson rushed for 674 yards on 196 carries (3.4 avg.) for the Bears last season, playing in 11 games before injuring an ankle and missing the last five games. He was arrested twice on alcohol-related charges during the offseason and the Bears cut him in June.
