Childress gives Jackson vote of confidence as Vikings’ starter

Vikings head coach Brad Childress and QB Tarvaris Jackson appear to be on the same page — both men say they think Jackson should be the starting quarterback.
Childress told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that Jackson “shouldn’t feel otherwise” than he has been as the Vikings’ first-string quarterback. Following last season, when Jackson went 8-4 as a starter but suffered through injuries and inconsistencies and was benched for a game for poor play, Childress did not completely endorse Jackson as the unquestioned starter heading into this season.
But his statements to the Pioneer Press have been among the most supportive towards Jackson this entire offseason.
“He did everything in the offseason, to act like, to be — he improved in the (organized team activities). That’s part of what that mantle is. You can see that nice evolution.”
Childress refused to comment about Brett Favre, who has been asking for the Packers to release him, because the legendary quarterback remains the property of another team.
The Vikings have been among the more aggressive teams this offseason through the trade and free-agent markets, adding key veterans Jared Allen, Bernard Berrian and Madieu Williams, among others.
