Doug Plank, head coach of the Arena Football League's Georgia Force, was named to the Falcons' coaching staff on Tuesday.

Plank will serve as a coaching assistant for the Falcons, according to reports, and keep his job with the Force. He will assist head coach Mike Smith on offense, defense and special teams.

Plank has had great success in the AFL, leading the Force to ArenaBowl XIX in 2005, but he has never coached in the NFL. He played safety for the Bears from 1975-82.
