Seahawks lose Engram for 6-8 weeks, release Tubbs

The Seahawks announced this morning that veteran WR Bobby Engram, a key cog in the team's passing game, suffered a cracked bone in his shoulder in the preseason opener vs. Minnesota and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. Engram suffered the injury on his first catch in the preseason opener. He did not practice Sunday, but the injury was not disclosed at that time.
After skipping offseason minicamps due to a contract dispute, Engram returned to camp as if he hadn't missed a beat, quickly showing off his special chemistry with QB Matt Hasselbeck. Engram's injury is a blow to the Seahawks' passing game with fellow WR Deion Branch already out while continuing to recover from knee surgery. With Engram and Branch both out, there is even more pressure for young Seattle receivers such as Courtney Taylor, Logan Payne, Ben Obomanu and Jordan Kent to step up their games and make an impact.
The team also announced this morning that it had released former first-round pick DT Marcus Tubbs after he failed a physical. Tubbs had missed each of the past two seasons with knee injuries.
In other injury news, Hasselbeck missed practice for the second consecutive day Monday with a back injury and might miss Seattle's second preseason game this Saturday vs. the Bears.
